Outstanding Governorship Award 2017
PROTECTION OF ENVIRONMENT AND AQUATIC RESOURCES
A consistent Saringaya Awardee for exceptional performance, strong institutional support, sustainable programs
and active participation in various undertakings for environmental protection and conservation, the Province of Sorsogon
under my humble leadership keeps the enthusiasm and commitment to sustain the protection of our natural resources.
Under this agenda, one of our continuing advocacies is the yearly Gawad Gobernador sa Kapaligiran Search for the
Cleanest and Greenest Local Government Unit of Sorsogon.
The Provincial Government likewise sustains all development programs that would involve our CAPACITY AGAINST
DISASTERS and the diverse effects of CLIMATE CHANGE.
To date, we have 150 beneficiaries from the Municipality of Prieto Diaz under the Core Shelter Project which provides
environmentally friendly, structurally strong shelter units that can resist a variety of hazards such as typhoons, flooding
and minor earthquakes using locally available construction materials.
Our undertakings, supportive to the country’s Disaster Preparedness and Response Program, have been duly
recognized at the Regional Kalasag Awards (Office of Civil Defense Five) for having the Best Provincial Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council for three consecutive years (2014-2016).
SOCIAL SERVICES
From an initial number of 1, 619 last December 2016, indigent
Sorsoganons continue to avail the Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situation
(AICS) Program at the Provincial Capitol.
As per an approved ordinance by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,
Centenarians receive cash benefit from the Provincial Government which
comes as a gift on their 100th birthday. We also provide wheelchairs and
crutches, recognizing the important role as well as the needs of our Senior
Citizens and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
INFRA
At present, the Provincial Government infrastructure projects are
addressed on road networks to support all agriculture and tourism
programs, in terms of accessibility; rehabilitation of water systems; site
development and/or construction of health facilities and multi-purpose
buildings in various schools, which will function as both venue for sports
activities and evacuation center during calamities.
