Outstanding Governorship Award 2017
Hon. Mujiv S. Hataman
Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)
SERVANT LEADER FOR MOROS
From his humble beginnings at a small village in the island of Basilan, Mujiv
Hataman worked his way up to become a leading Moro figure of today. As Regional
Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), he has authority
over five provinces and two cities and takes the helm of addressing the clamors of
around 4 million residents, who are mostly Moros. His administration’s introduction
of reforms and good governance has allowed ARMM to maintain its relevance to the
aspirations of the Moro people.
Mujiv was born on September 11, 1972 as the seventh child of Hadji
Sulaiman Hataman, a Yakan, and Hadja Jamila Salliman, a Tausug, in the village
of Buli-Buli, Sumisip, Basilan. He comes from a family of leaders - his father was a
panglima(chieftain) and served as Barangay captain of their village from the time he
sought the position in the 70s until his retirement, and his older brother was one of
the first councilors of the then City of Basilan.
