Hon. Imee R. Marcos
Governor of the Province of Ilocos Norte
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R. Marcos was one of the first female
graduates of Princeton University, graduating with a B.A. in Religion and
Politics, with honors. She then earned her M.A. in Management and
Business Administration from the Asian Institute of Management in Makati
City, and did graduate studies in anthropology, sociology, arts, history, and
theater at Princeton and at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).
She went on to become a theater, television, and film producer of
award-winning classic Filipino films and served the Experimental Cinema
of the Philippines for five years (1981-1986) as director-general. Among
her noteworthy productions are Oro, Plata, Mata; Himala; Da Real Makoy
and Lam-ang; and Pintakasi.
Her experience in local governance began in the 1970s when she
organized a three million-strong village or barangay youth organization, the
Kabataang Barangay (KB), and chaired it from 1975-1984. The KB then
became the predecessor of the modern Sangguniang Kabataan. Marcos
later became Congresswoman of the Second District of Ilocos Norte for
three consecutive terms (1998-2007), and in 2010 she won in a landslide
victory for the province's governorship. She is currently in the second year
of her last term as governor, which ends in 2019.
