Outstanding Governorship Award 2017
She believes in the three P's: profit, planet, and people. Beyond corporate social responsibility (CSR), Marcos is hopeful that economic progress and
investments coupled with more motivated and productive workforce will help avert population decline, protect indigenous cultures, and unify troubled
families. Marcos wants a province that will keep mothers and fathers at home with their children so that leaving home to work would simply become
another choice, convincing even millennials that they do have a future in their homeland.
Ilocos Norte is experiencing 12% year-on-year growth, with tourism as a leading sector: from 259,148 recorded tourists in 2012, Ilocos Norte
welcomed 472,989 day visitors during the Holy Weak season of 2017 (April 11-16) alone. For the entire year of 2016, the province recorded a total of
2,031,884 day visitors, and this is seen to increase as Ilocos Norte recently just entered the cruise ship industry when it welcomed that maiden arrival of
Star Cruises' Superstar Virgo, bringing in thousands of local and foreign tourists through the Port Town of Currimao. Poverty has fallen to below 8.4%, while
unemployment has also decreased from 37% to 4.2%.
These transformations take root in Marcos' sustained efforts since sitting as governor in 2010. With her background in creative arts, she has given
the province a new storyline, bringing Ilocanos together to come home and themselves be agents of change in their lives and their communities.
