Outstanding Governorship
In 2007, in support of her husband’s reform agenda and his candidacy as Governor of Nueva Ecija, she was convinced to run for Congress. Their
landslide electoral victories provided a platform for the Umali couple to coalesce their efforts to accelerate the province’s socio-economic development.
Together, they crafted and implemented much needed interventions in agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and peace and order, ushering in
Nueva Ecija’s much longed-for freedom and prosperity as well as awakening public confidence on the quality of their governance.
Throughout her nine-year tenure as Congresswoman of the 3rd District, she has attended to the welfare of her constituents and collective interest of
the province with the devotion and attention of a dutiful mother. She was later conferred the title Doctor of Humanities (Honoris Causa) by the Nueva Ecija
University of Science and Technology (NEUST) for her proficiency and significant contributions in the field of public service.
Now as the Governor, she vows to bring her nurturing and caring virtues and perspective to the provincial leadership. In her inaugural address, she
affirmed her intention to listen, to learn, and to feel with her heart; to find common grounds for working together even in the most difficult circumstances;
and to once again prove to her critics that commitment, compassion, and empathy are just as valuable in effectively leading the province of Nueva Ecija
towards a future of inclusive progress and stability
